I am broken

“I Am Broken, and That Is Exactly Why I Can Be Used.”

The last line of the first verse of Sanctus Real’s “Confidence” says it all:

“’Cause broken people are exactly who you use.”

I’ve admitted I am broken. For 35 years, alcohol defined too much of my life. But admitting brokenness is not the end — it’s the beginning. It’s the moment where clarity, confidence, and innovation can take root.

Brokenness doesn’t disqualify us. It qualifies us. It strips away illusion and forces us to rebuild with honesty. That’s why I believe broken people are exactly the ones who can be used — in business, in community, in faith, in legacy.

This is my way, the Jason way: confidence born from honesty, innovation born from necessity, and usefulness born from brokenness.

Jason is a writer and recovery advocate whose work explores the intersection of Catholic faith and the lived experience of addiction. His books and essays weave scripture with the rhythms of everyday life, showing how grace can surface in the most ordinary encounters.

Through A Catholic Gospel Journey – Through the Lens of Alcohol Recovery and related projects, Jason offers reflections that connect the Sunday readings to the struggles and victories of recovery. His approach is rooted in clarity, rhythm, and respect for tradition, while remaining accessible to those navigating the challenges of addiction and renewal.

Founder of the Hadspen Foundation, Jason is committed to building frameworks for spiritual recovery that are both repeatable and personal. His writing is guided by discernment, narrative cadence, and the belief that doctrine should support—not overshadow—the human story.
